About Jawahar Kala Kendra
Jawahar Kala Kendra is Jaipur's arts centre, opened in 1991 to a design by the architect Charles Correa. Its plan is based on the navagraha mandala, the nine-square grid of the planets that also underlies the layout of the old city, with each square given over to a different art and marked by its planet's symbol.
It hosts exhibitions, theatre, music and craft fairs through the year, and its open-air amphitheatre and painted walls make it worth seeing even when nothing is on. The café is a favourite local meeting place.
