About Jal Mahal
Jal Mahal stands in the middle of Man Sagar Lake, on the road from Jaipur to Amber. It took its present form in the 18th century as a pleasure palace and hunting retreat for the royal family, and when the lake is full only its top floor shows above the water; the lower storeys are submerged.
It isn't open to visitors. You see it from the promenade along the shore, ideally early in the morning or towards dusk, when the sandstone glows against the hills behind.
