About City Palace, Jaipur

Sawai Jai Singh II built the City Palace when he founded Jaipur in 1727, at the centre of the grid of streets he laid out for his new capital. It's a run of courtyards, gardens and halls, and the seven-storey Chandra Mahal at its heart is still the royal family's home.

The parts open to visitors include the Mubarak Mahal, now a gallery of royal costume and textiles; the armoury; the Diwan-i-Khas, with two huge silver urns made to carry Ganges water to London for a coronation in 1902; and the Pritam Niwas Chowk, where four painted doorways stand for the four seasons.
