About Albert Hall Museum

The Albert Hall is Rajasthan's oldest museum. Its foundation stone was laid during the Prince of Wales's visit in 1876, and Sir Samuel Swinton Jacob designed it in the Indo-Saracenic style, combining Rajput and Mughal domes, arches and screens with a European plan. It opened as a museum in 1887, at the centre of Ram Niwas Garden.

Its galleries hold the state collections of miniature paintings, carpets, pottery, arms, costumes and coins, along with an Egyptian mummy that has long been the most popular exhibit. After dark the building is floodlit, and it's one of the city's best-known night-time sights.
