About Akshardham Temple

Swaminarayan Akshardham opened in 2005 on the east bank of the Yamuna. The BAPS Swaminarayan Sanstha built it from pink sandstone and white marble without structural steel, following traditional temple architecture, and the central monument is covered in thousands of carved deities, dancers and animals.

Around the temple are gardens, a sunken courtyard modelled on a stepwell, exhibition halls on Indian culture and the life of Swaminarayan, a large-format film and an evening water show. Seeing it properly takes half a day.
