About Jagdish Temple
Maharana Jagat Singh I built the Jagdish Temple in 1651, just outside the City Palace's main gate. It's dedicated to Vishnu as Jagannath, Lord of the Universe, raised on a high platform and reached by a steep flight of steps guarded by stone elephants.
The main spire is carved all over with dancers, musicians, elephants and deities, and a brass image of Garuda, Vishnu's mount, faces the sanctum. Worship goes on through the day, with aarti in the morning and evening.
