About Monsoon Palace (Sajjangarh)
Sajjangarh, the Monsoon Palace, was begun in 1884 by Maharana Sajjan Singh on a hilltop west of the city. It was meant as an observatory and a place to watch the monsoon clouds gather over the hills, but the Maharana died young and it was never finished as he planned.
The hill is now a wildlife sanctuary, and the road up winds through its forest. The reason to come is the view across Fateh Sagar and Pichola lakes, the city and the Aravalli hills, best in the late afternoon.
