About Jag Mandir
Jag Mandir is an island palace at the southern end of Lake Pichola. Successive Maharanas of Mewar worked on it, and it was completed by Jagat Singh I in the mid-17th century, which is where its name comes from.
The young prince Khurram, the future Shah Jahan, sheltered here in the 1620s while in revolt against his father, and it's often said the island's domed pavilion and inlay work stayed with him when he came to build the Taj Mahal. Today the island has gardens, a café and a restaurant.
