About Eklingji Temple
Eklingji, at Kailashpuri about 22 kilometres north of Udaipur, is the temple of the presiding deity of Mewar, a form of Shiva. The rulers of Mewar have long regarded Eklingji as the true king of the state and themselves as his regents.
Tradition says Bappa Rawal founded the temple in the eighth century, though the present buildings are much later. Within its high walls are more than a hundred shrines around a main temple with a four-faced image of Shiva in black stone.
