About Gurudwara Sis Ganj Sahib
Gurudwara Sis Ganj Sahib marks the place on Chandni Chowk where the ninth Sikh Guru, Guru Tegh Bahadur, was beheaded on the orders of the emperor Aurangzeb in 1675 after refusing to convert to Islam. The trunk of the tree under which he was executed and the well where he bathed are preserved inside.
The Sikh general Baghel Singh built the first shrine here in 1783, when his forces held Delhi; the present building is later. It's a busy place of worship in the middle of Old Delhi, with a langar that serves free meals to everyone.
