About Gurudwara Bangla Sahib
Gurudwara Bangla Sahib stands on the site of a bungalow belonging to Raja Jai Singh of Amber, where the eighth Sikh Guru, Guru Har Krishan, stayed when he came to Delhi in 1664. An epidemic of smallpox and cholera was sweeping the city, and the young Guru is remembered for tending the sick and giving them water from the well here, which now feeds the sarovar, the holy pool beside the gurudwara.
It's Delhi's best-known gurudwara, recognisable by its golden dome, and its langar, the community kitchen, serves free meals to thousands of people every day, whatever their faith. Visitors are welcome in the prayer hall, on the marble walkway around the pool and in the kitchen.

Do tourists need to cover their heads at Bangla Sahib?
- Yes. Everyone covers their head and leaves their shoes at the free deposit before entering; scarves are handed out at the entrance if you don't have one. Alcohol and tobacco aren't allowed anywhere on the premises.
Is the langar at Bangla Sahib free for everyone?
- Yes. Anyone can sit down to the meal, which is vegetarian and served to diners sitting in rows on the floor, and visitors are welcome to help in the kitchen.
