About Kedar Ghat
Kedar Ghat is named after its temple of Kedareshwar, a form of Shiva linked to the Himalayan shrine of Kedarnath, and is one of the most important ghats in the southern half of Varanasi. Its steps are painted in bold red and white stripes, which make it easy to pick out from a boat.
The neighbourhood behind it has long been home to many of the city's South Indian and Bengali families, and the temple and the smaller shrines on the steps are busy with pilgrims, especially at dawn. The small tank at the foot of the steps, Gauri Kund, is believed to have healing waters.
