About Assi Ghat
Assi Ghat is the southernmost of Varanasi's main ghats, where the Assi stream meets the Ganga. Pilgrims bathe here before worshipping at a Shiva lingam beneath a peepal tree, and its wide steps make it the most relaxed of the ghats, popular with students from nearby Banaras Hindu University, musicians and long-stay visitors.
Every morning before dawn it hosts Subah-e-Banaras, a programme of aarti, Vedic chanting, classical music and yoga, and boats leave from here for sunrise rides north along the river.
