About Ahilyabai Ghat
Ahilyabai Ghat is named after Ahilyabai Holkar, the Maratha queen of Indore, who rebuilt it in 1778. She was one of the great builders of eighteenth-century India, and two years later she also rebuilt the Kashi Vishwanath temple.
Its tall, fortress-like facade with living quarters above makes it one of the handsomest of the ghats, and it lies just south of Dashashwamedh Ghat, so it's easy to see on a walk or from a boat.
