About Balsamand Lake
Balsamand Lake, about 5 kilometres north of Jodhpur, is one of the oldest reservoirs in the area, created in 1159 by Balak Rao Parihar. Its banks are shaded by orchards of mango, guava and pomegranate, home to langurs and peacocks.
On the bank stands the Balsamand Lake Palace, a red sandstone summer palace of Jodhpur's rulers that is now a heritage hotel. It's a calm, green stop on the road to Mandore.
