About Umaid Bhawan Palace Museum
Umaid Bhawan Palace was built for Maharaja Umaid Singh between 1929 and 1943, partly to give work to people hit by a long drought. With 347 rooms it's one of the largest private homes in the world, and one of the last great palaces built in India.
The building is split three ways: part is still the royal family's residence, part is a Taj hotel, and part is the museum you can visit, with the family's collections of clocks, crockery and photographs. Their vintage cars are on display in the grounds.
