About Sam Sand Dunes

Sam is a stretch of rolling dunes about 40 km west of Jaisalmer, near the Desert National Park. It's where most people come to see the Thar the way they imagine it, wave after wave of sand, best in the late afternoon as the light softens.

Camel rides and jeep trips head out onto the dunes for sunset, and many visitors stay on for dinner and folk music at a nearby desert camp, or overnight under canvas. Winter evenings are busy; for quieter dunes, ask about Khuri, south-west of Jaisalmer.
