About Rampuria Havelis
The Rampuria Havelis are a group of mansions in Bikaner's old city built by the Rampurias, a wealthy merchant family, in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Faced in red Dulmera sandstone, their facades are covered in carved balconies, floral panels and figures, mixing Rajput and Mughal motifs with European touches.
They line narrow lanes and are mostly still private homes, so the pleasure is in walking among the facades rather than going inside. They're best seen on a guided walk with Kote Gate and the Bhandasar Jain Temple.
