About Junagarh Fort
Junagarh Fort was built between 1589 and 1594 by Raja Rai Singh, a general in Akbar's army. Unlike most Rajasthan forts it stands on the plain rather than a hill, defended by a moat and walls with 37 bastions, and it's often said that no enemy ever took it.
Later rulers added palace after palace inside, so the interiors are unusually varied: the red-and-gold lacquer work of the Anup Mahal, the mirror inlay of the Phool Mahal, the Badal Mahal painted with blue clouds, and a museum that even holds a First World War biplane.
