About Jorbeer Conservation Reserve heritage landscape
Jorbeer, just outside Bikaner, is where the carcasses of dead livestock from the city and surrounding villages are left, and that makes it one of the best places in India to see vultures. Egyptian vultures live here all year, and in winter they're joined by migrating Eurasian griffons, Himalayan griffons and cinereous vultures, as well as steppe eagles.
The reserve is open, scrubby desert, explored by vehicle or on foot along its tracks. The birds gather in large numbers in the cooler months, and early morning is the best time to come, though it isn't for the squeamish.
