About Rao Jodha Desert Rock Park
Rao Jodha Desert Rock Park covers the rocky volcanic hillside beneath Mehrangarh Fort. It opened in 2011 after years of work by the Mehrangarh Museum Trust to clear the invasive mesquite that had taken over the land and bring back the native plants of the Thar's rocky desert.
Marked trails lead through outcrops of rhyolite, along ravines and past an old water channel, with views up to the fort walls. There's a small visitor centre, and early morning is the best time to walk, for the light, the birds and the cool.
