Jodhpur's Ghanta Ghar, the Clock Tower, was built by Maharaja Sardar Singh, who ruled from 1880 to 1911, and the market around it carries his name. It stands at the centre of the old city's main bazaar and is the landmark everyone uses to give directions.
It's the natural starting point for a walk through the old city: Sardar Market's spice and textile lanes surround it, the Toorji Ka Jhalra stepwell is a short walk away, and Mehrangarh rises on its ridge above.
