About Mariam-uz-Zamani Tomb
This is the tomb of Mariam-uz-Zamani, the Rajput princess of Amber who married Akbar and was the mother of the emperor Jahangir. She died in 1623 and is buried at Sikandra, close to Akbar's own tomb.
The building began as a garden pavilion, a baradari, built by Sultan Sikandar Lodi in 1495; Jahangir converted it into his mother's tomb, refacing it in red sandstone. It's rarely visited, which makes it a peaceful counterpoint to the crowds at Akbar's tomb.
