About Sardar Market

Sardar Market is the bazaar at the heart of Jodhpur's old city, laid out around the Clock Tower in the reign of Maharaja Sardar Singh at the turn of the twentieth century. Its gates open onto lanes of spice sellers, textile shops, bangle stalls and tea shops, with Mehrangarh looming above.

It's the place to buy spices, bandhani tie-dye, leather juttis and silver, and to eat: Jodhpur's makhaniya lassi, mirchi vada and mawa kachori are all sold within a few minutes' walk. Mornings are the most relaxed time to browse; evenings are busier and more atmospheric.
