About Galtaji Temple (Monkey Temple)
Galtaji is a complex of temples, pavilions and bathing tanks in a narrow gorge in the hills about 10 km east of Jaipur. A natural spring feeds a series of sacred pools where pilgrims bathe, and tradition links the site to the sage Galav, who is said to have meditated here.
Most of the buildings date from the 18th century and share the pink tone of the old city. The gorge is home to large troops of macaques, which is why it's often called the Monkey Temple. A small Sun temple on the ridge above looks back over Jaipur.
