Sunder Nursery
Also known as Azim Bagh
A beautifully restored heritage landscape near Humayun's Tomb, combining Mughal garden design, historic monuments and a thriving urban green space.
About Sunder Nursery
Sunder Nursery began as a Mughal garden, Azim Bagh, beside the road to Humayun's Tomb. In the early twentieth century the British used it as a nursery to raise trees and plants for their new capital, New Delhi, which is how it got its name.
The Aga Khan Trust for Culture spent a decade restoring it, and it reopened in 2018 as a 90-acre heritage park. More than a dozen Mughal-era monuments, several of them now part of the Humayun's Tomb World Heritage Site, stand among its lawns, water channels, nurseries and a zone planted with Delhi's native trees.

Visiting Sunder Nursery
Is Sunder Nursery worth visiting?
- Yes, especially if you're seeing Humayun's Tomb. It's right next door, far quieter, and the best place in central Delhi for a long walk among Mughal tombs and gardens.
How long should I allow?
- An hour to an hour and a half to walk the central avenue and see the main tombs; longer if you'd like to sit by the water or look for birds.
