Begumpuri Mosque

The Begumpuri Masjid dates from the fourteenth-century Tughlaq period and stands in what was Jahanpanah, the walled city Muhammad bin Tughlaq built to join Delhi's older settlements. It's usually credited to Khan-i-Jahan Junan Shah, prime minister to Firoz Shah Tughlaq.

It's one of the largest mosques of its time in Delhi: a vast courtyard ringed by arcades topped with dozens of small domes, and a monumental arched facade to the prayer hall. Set in an urban village and rarely visited, it gives a real sense of the scale of Tughlaq building.
