Ranthambore Fort

About Ranthambore Fort
Ranthambore Fort stands on a hill inside the national park, its walls running along the edge of a plateau above the forest. It's thought to date from the 10th century and was fought over for hundreds of years by Rajput clans, the Delhi Sultanate and the Mughals; Alauddin Khalji's siege of 1301 is the most famous.
Inside the walls are ruined palaces, temples, stepwells and water tanks, with views over the lakes and forest below. Langurs, and occasionally a leopard, share the ruins. The fort is part of UNESCO's Hill Forts of Rajasthan listing.
