Delhi–Agra Same-Day Taj Mahal Tour

Day Trip

Delhi–Agra Same-Day Taj Mahal Tour

A single long day from Delhi to see the Taj Mahal and Agra Fort and return the same night — rushed, and skips the sunrise view, but genuinely workable for guests who can't spare an Agra overnight.

Delhi · Agra

The Taj Mahal in a Single Day

If you only have one free day in Delhi, this is how to see the Taj Mahal without staying overnight. You leave very early, drive down the Yamuna Expressway, see the Taj and Agra Fort with a guide, and are back in Delhi for the evening.

It's a long day, around twelve to thirteen hours door to door, with roughly four of them in Agra. You won't see the Taj at sunrise, and Fatehpur Sikri doesn't fit. If you can spare one night, Agra rewards it with the sunrise visit and a far less hurried day.

Route

230 km · 3.5 – 4 hrsEn route: Well-developed expressway — food courts, clean restrooms & petrol pumps at intervals; fewer stops than a state highway · Photo stop: Mathura (Krishna temples) — short detour off the expressway, popular photo/darshan stop

Full tolls, drive times and en-route facilities for every leg are in the route & distance atlas.

Day By Day

0 Nights · 1 Day

01

~5:00 AM · Pickup & Departure

Your driver collects you from your hotel around 5 am and heads south on the Yamuna Expressway. Leaving this early gets you to Agra ahead of the worst heat and the tour coaches.

02

~9:00 AM · Taj Mahal

About two hours at the Taj Mahal with your guide, including the security queue. It won't be sunrise, but the light is still soft and the crowds manageable.

03

~11:30 AM · Agra Fort

An hour or so at Agra Fort, the red sandstone fortress of the Mughal emperors, with views back along the river to the Taj.

04

~1:00 PM · Lunch

Lunch at a local restaurant, with a chance to buy petha, Agra's famous ash-gourd sweet.

05

~2:30 PM · Return Departure

Set off back to Delhi, around three and a half to four hours.

06

~6:30 PM · Drop-off

Back at your hotel in the early evening.

Expect twelve to thirteen hours door to door, with about four hours of sightseeing in Agra itself. One night in Agra makes for a much better trip, for the cost of a single extra night.

Good To Know

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I see the Taj Mahal at sunrise on a day trip?

Not realistically: you'd have to leave Delhi in the middle of the night. To see it at first light, stay one night in Agra.

Is the Taj Mahal open every day?

No. It's closed on Fridays, when the mosque inside the complex is used for prayers, so plan your day trip for another day of the week.

What should I bring?

Travel light. Security at the Taj turns away large bags, food and tripods, so leave them in the car with your driver. Bring water and a hat for the walk across the gardens.
